I lie awake, unable to sleep. I stare at the lone wispy silver star hanging in the red black sky. The constant reminder of the dull ache in my stomach is like the continuous screeching of a fax machine running faster than it should. I swallow hard, wipe the water from my right eye with the side of my index finger before it hits someone else's pillow. And say my prayers before I whisper, "goodnight."
